A Comprehension of the Ion Transportation Effects Revealed in LCDs
Ion transportation, one of key factors affecting the long-term image quality, especially in image sticking, of a TFTLCD, is investigated theoretically by applying the continuum theory of nematic liquid crystals. Both the longitudinal and the lateral ion transportations under an externally longitudinal driving field are studied in this paper. The effects of externally applied voltages, ion mobility, and twist tendency on ion distribution, and therefore, on image sticking are presented.
