Films Surface Morphology and Field Emission Characteristics of Carbon Nanotubes Array Pattern Fabricated under Magnetic Field

This paper studies the carbon nanotubes ( CNTs) paste films surface morphology and their field emission Characteristics. The CNTs paste was prepared by mixing with Mg-Ni alloys multiwalled CNTs, silver epoxy and inorganic binder (Sodium Meta Silicate). After mixing and well dispersion, the CNTs paste was coated onto the surafce of Indium-tin-oxide (ITO) glass as cathode. Then, the cathode was placed under a cylindrical magnetic field. A grid or without grid above the cathode under the magnetic field were discussed. We discussed also the impacts of inorganic binder, magnetic strength and sintered temperature on the morphology of paste films surfaces and their field emission (FE) characterics of the cathode. The experimental results showed that the CNTs paste provided a good adhesion between CNTs and silver epoxy when the inorganic binder was presented. The CNTs paste containing inorganic binder also revealed a good FE characteristic. A better vertical alignment of CNTs was obtained when magnetic field and grid were introduced. An optimal condition for a better CNTs array pattern for both morphology and FE characteric was under the magnetic strength of 189 mT, heating temperature of 230℃, magnetized time of 30 min and a grid above the cathode.
