Low Cost Mini Projectors Based on Dual Parabolic Reflectors with Halogen, UHP and HID Lamps
The emerging market of low cost mini projectors for gaining and portable TV is very big. We evaluated halogen lamps, HID lamps, and low power UHP lamps in terms of brightness and price for a mini projector system. The systems utilize Waviens dual parabolic reflector systems and LCOS panels with built-in color filters. Two different versions of the mini projectors were finally developed, one for mercury-free toy projectors with halogen lamps and one for other general mini projector applications with HM-HID lamps. The screen light intensities are up to 40 lumens for halogen lamp based projectors and 90 lumens for HID lamps based projectors. The BOMs of for the halogen version is estimated to be as low as $129, allowing a discounted street price of $200 to be achievable.
