POP with Simultaneous High Efficacy and High Luminance
Efficacy, luminance, addressing, lifetime and discharge characteristics of high Xe-content PDP test panels are discussed. Design and driving conditions that govern a fast discharge development induce a high efficiency fast discharge mode. High Xe-content panels with somewhat higher drive voltages are especially suited for operation in this discharge mode. Furthermore, for higher Xe-content the addressing margin and the discharge voltage stability increase and the luminance depreciation decreases. In the high efficiency fast discharge mode a simultaneous high efficacy and high luminance is achieved, enabling high resolution designs with a relatively small emissive area. A high efficacy of 4 - 5 Im/W concurrent with a high luminance of 3 500 - 5 000 cd/m2 has been realized for VGA an XGA resolution. Low cost stripetype barrier rib structures can be applied and the outlook for efficient high-Xe-content HD TV is promising.
