Comparison of Striation Phenomena and Discharge Characteristics in Matrix PDP and Shadow Mask PDP

The mechanism about the formation of striations in plasma display panel was more complex. Negative wall charge accumulation, ion waves, attachments and stepwise ionizations could form striations. Striation phenomena in the matrix and shadow mask plasma display panel had been simulated by the particle-in-cell Mote-Carlo-coIlision (PIC-MCC) model. The difference of Striation phenomenon between matrix PDP and shadow mask PDP (SMPDP) were showed. Some discharge characteristics had also been compared using XOOPIC (2-dimensional self-consistent PIC-MCC code), such as the time of discharge delay, the peak value of ions and electron densities. Furthermore, the ion incident angle and the energy distribution on the dielectric surface above the cathode region were calculated to estimate the sputtering on MgO.
