The Multiview Projector 3D Display System

The autostereoscopic display technology is believed by many to be the next logical development toward a more natural and life-like visual home entertainment experience. In order to provide more realistic and exciting VR effect, it is desirable to have as large screen as possible. The objective of this paper is to provide a detailed overview of a multiview projector system for 3D display. Three-dimensional imaging methods are based on parallaxes as their depth cues. In the method, the parallaxes are provided by creating a viewing zone without use of either a special optical eyeglasses or a special optical headset as their viewing zone-forming optics. The experimental system consists of an array of cameras, clusters of PCs, and a multi-projector 3D display. Using lenticular, not Parallax barrier, to manufacture a multi-view spatially multiplexed autostereoscopic display. The stereoscopic image pairs are presented simultaneously with use of projectors. This kind of autostereoscopic display screen has the advantages of ease to scale up, low cost and no precise alignment between the projectors and the screen required. In the end, the manufacture considerations of such a screen are studied and the experimental results are presented.
