A Study on Concurrent Luminance and Temporal Measurements in Liquid Crystal Displays
This paper studies concurrent measurements on luminance and temporal performance of liquid crystal display by closely integrating different instruments. A photodetector with a photopic filter is applied to measure temporal response of LCD. A Photo Reserch is utilized to get luminance and color of LCD. A photodetector with a photopic filter has a large size area such as 10 millimeter in diameter. This paper designs an optical system which is using optical fibers and collimation lens to connect optical sensor. It has the advantages of smaller probe sizes, adjustable spot sizes and easy to alignment. The measurement spot sizes are adjusted by designing and applying different collimation lens with optical fibers. For measuring lower luminance of LCD, larger beam collimators are selected. For getting higher spatial resolution or measuring small target, collimation lens with smaller spot sizes are chosen. The collimators on either sides of the optical fiber for each instrument probe should be designed and arranged according to specifications. In this paper, the effects of different measuring angle toward the LCD panel are analyzed. The corresponding calibration method is developed for the proposed concurrent measurement system. The developed system can be expanded to conduct parallel measurements of multi-points of LCD for high throughput and spatial resolution.
