RGB Phosphors for Low-voltage Electron Excitation: Synthesis, Efficacy, Stability
Factors determining main catfaodoluminescence parameters of RGB phosphors for low-voltage (40 -100 V) VFD, middle-voltage (400-1 000 V), and high-voltage (1 -3 kV) FED have been investigated. The brightness and efficacy of cathodoluminescence are shown to be affected by fine details of synthesis as well as by chemical composition. An RGB cadmium-free triad is proposed for full-color VFD and middle-voltage FED, namely; Y2O2S: Eu or (Sr, Ca)TiO3: Pr, Al, Ga(R); ZnS: Cu, Al or Y2O2S: Tb(G), and ZnS: Ag, Al or (Zn1-xMgx)O: Zn, Ga (B). The usage of some other phosphors of different compositions is discussed. Main cathodoluminescent parameters have been found to be influenced by the conductivity, thickness, and structure of VFD and FED screens.
