Resonant Microcavity Phosphor Screen in CRT Projection Displays
The color of image in the traditional cathode ray tube projection displays is not pure and the direction of image is not good, which causes poor color saturation and low brightness of image on the projection screen. We proposed a new phosphor screen based on a Fabry-Perot microcavity. The phosphor screen consists of dielectric mirrors sandwiching die phosphor layer and has unique light output characterized by a narrow spectral distribution and high luminance. The design of blue phosphor screen has been done using Matlab. The dielectric mirrors and phosphor layer were evaporated on the glass substrate in a vacuum chamber by e-beam evaporation. The results show that the resonant microcavity phosphor screens wavelength bandwidth of emission is 3.4 times narrower than the conventional phosphor screen, and luminance peak is 7 times higher than the conventional one. The error between experiment and calculation is acceptable.
