A Novel Dynamic Resonant Energy Recovery Sustainer for PDP

A novel dynamic resonant energy recovery sustaining circuit suitable for plasma display panel (PDF) is proposed. It employs a controller to count the number of on pixels of every subfield, and mainly the same two sustainers with several resonators which can participate in resonating with the panel separately controlled by the controller. The proposed controller counts the number of on pixels of every subfield, which represents different capacitance of a PDF when displaying different images. Then it determines which inductors to participate in resonating with the panel, or adjust the intervals of controlling signals of energy recovery MOSFETs slightly according to the variable capacitance of every subfield. Compared with the existent fixed resonant sustainers, it features perfect dynamic resonance between the sustainer and the panel according to the images to be displayed with high efficiency, and provides nearly the same rising/falling edge of every driving waveform no matter what kind of images the panel displays. The proposed method is expected to be suitable for other kinds of energy recovery sustainers to obtain good resonance and also high energy recovery efficiency.
