Highly Uniform Field Emission Cathode with Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes and Its Application to Lighting Elements

We have developed a two-layered multi-walled carbon naootube (MWNT) field emision cathode made by screen printing technique. The cathode consist of an surface layer of nanotube emitters and an adhesion sub-layer. The purpose of this work is to develop an effective carbon nanotube cathode with high unifomity. This cathode was assembled into a triode type lighting element tube with a molybdenum grid as the gate and a phosphor screen applied with 10 KV anode voltage. The light emission was very uniform and stable, and the emission current did not degrade after SO hours of testing, suggesting a good life time of MWNT emitters on the cathode surface.
