Improved Performance of Alq3-based Organic Light-emitting Diode with Multi-layer Structure
Different multi-layer structure organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3) as the emission layers (EML) were fabricated. Electroluminescence (EL) efficiencies as well as lifetime were measured and compared among these OLEDs. The highest luminous efficiency of 6.86 cd/A (corresponding to external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 2.08% ) was achieved with the device including both hole-injection layer (HIL) and holeblocking layer (HBL), which almost doubled that of conventional single heterostructure device (-3.4 cd/A and EQE of 1.1%). This improved efficiency can be attributed to the excellent charge balance within the EML.
