Luminescence of Ga2O3-GeO2-Bi2O3-PbO Glasses Doped with Rare-earth Ions for Full Color Displays

This paper reports on frequency upconversion emission properties of Tm3 + /Yb3+ and/or Ho3 +/Yb3 +-doped Ga2O3-GeO2-Bi2O3-PbO heavy metal oxide glasses. An intense blue emission centered at around 476 nm of Tm3 + /Yb3 + -co-doped samples, corresponding to the 1G4→3H6 transition of Tm3+ has been clearly observed upon excitation of 980 nm laser diode. The cube-like dependence of the blue-emission on the incident pump laser power, indicates a three-photon process contribute to the blue upconversion emissions. Meanwhile intense green and red emissions centered at 546 and 660 nm in Ho3+/Yb3 +-codoped samples, which assigned to the transitions of (5F4,5S2)→5I8 and 5F5→5I8 of Ho3+ respectively, have been observed and the involved mechanism has also been discussed. The quadratic dependence of fluorescence on excitation laser power confirms that the fact that the two-photon contribute to the green-red upconversion emissions.
