The Synthesize of Carbon Nanotubes on Tungsten Wire for Field Emission Cathode
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been grown on tungsten wires via catalytic thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) with methane as the source of carbon atoms. On the tungsten wire, we could find the CNTs with catalyst solution (Fe(NO3)3 ·9H2O) at 2.5 mole concentration (M). A field emission current of 100 μA can be obtained of CNTs on tungsten and the field enhancement factor was then estimated to be 5008. By using a simple structure of vacuum glass tube as the vacuum chamber, we could demonstrate a field emission lighting tube and investigate the characteristics of the lighting device. The notion is highly potential for making a new lighting device which is mercury-free, continuously dimmable and has a high luminance capability.
