Hybrid Optical Film for LCD Backlight

In order to satisfy the high quality requirements for LCD, several optical films are assembled in the LCD backlight module. However, each optical film is designed for single function such as diffusion or brightness enhancement. By designing the micro-structures on the polymeric substrate of an optical film, we propose a hybrid optical film (HOP) with multifunction and, thereafter, successfully simplify the multi-film stacked backlight structure. The new designed optical film not only has good uniformity and brightness enhancement, but also increases the efficiency and half-intensity angle with respect to conventional ones. The design, simulation, and experiment result are demonstrated and discussed in this paper.
