Research on the Realization Method of Nakedness-eye Stereoscopic Display Based on Single Chip DMD

There are a lot of stereoscopic display facilities based on flat panel displays (PDPs and LCDs). But these facilities are very expensive if with big screen (bigger than 50 inches). This paper presents a realization method of nakedness-eye stereoscopic display based on single chip DMD. The foundation of this method is horizontal parallax. On the analysis of DLP display principle and components (UHP lamp, color-wheel, DMD chip, Lens group, and screen) transfer characteristics, the authors designed a set of algorithm which is implemented in the FPGA. When the stereoscopic image pairs or computer generated 3D graphics are input to the FPGA, the FPGA produces parallax image sequences to the DMD driver board and the sync signal to the parallax actuator. So the stereoscopic image can be observed at the view zone without glasses or other encumbering viewing aids.
