Using Hybrid Adaptive Comb Filter to Improve Image Quality

Y-C separation is a must when displaying video picture from the composite video source. And the performance of the adopted Y-C separator influences the viewed picture quality greatly. The algorithm and architecture of an improved hybrid adaptive comb filter is proposed in this paper, and it is composed of 4 modes of comb filtering: A, B, C, and D, which uses two special designed detectors to estimate the motion difference and vertical detail difference respectively and men decide which type of Y-C separators is selected, and in this way the better picture quality is obtained. The simulation results and PSNR values show that the proposed method can achieve high image quality, either static parts or motion parts.
