Using Content-based ELA Algorithm to Improve Picture Quality of Progressive TV Devices
De-interlacing methods realizing the interlaced to progressive conversion are required in many applications. Among them, infra-field methods are widely used for their good trade off between performance and computational cost. In particular, the ELA algorithm is well known for its advantages in reconstructing the edges of images, although it degrades the image quality where the edges are not clear. In this paper, based on the displayed content, the viewed patterns are classified into three types: smooth, line and edge, and then de-interlaced separately according to the specially designed algorithm as proposed here. The simulation results shows that the proposed method achieves high image quality and low hardware complexity.
