Hydrocarbon Films Obtained by Electron Beam for Micropatterning in Liquid Crystal Diffraction Grating
We demonstrate very simple method of obtaining the nano-scale hydrocarbon (CH ) covering for orientation of liquid crystal. We used a snuff effect of hydrocarbon film on the surface of the substrate in a residual atmosphere of electron scanning microscope under electron beam for micropatteming in liquid crystal cell. By means of such a method the nanodimension CH films were produced as stripes with micron size needed for liquid crystal diffraction grating. Qualitative polarization analysis shows that liquid crystal orientation over CH film depends on its thickness. It is established that in LC cell with homeotropic reference surface the liquid crystal orientation over closed arranged narrow CH stripes is uniform. The performed liquid crystal grating demonstrates a satisfactory resolution and effective electric field control.
