Models of mesopic photometry applied to the contrast threshold of peripheral and foveal objects
In a laboratory experiment the detection of a 0,7°sized object was tested with 40 test persons. Colored stimuli were presented at positions of 2°, 6°, 10°, and 14°eccentricity to determine the threshold contrast at different positions in the visual field. The measured contrasts were used to compare several approaches to calculate the mesopic equivalent luminance for peripheral perception. The results show that models of mesopic photometry improve the description of contrast sensitivity for peripheral vision. For near foveal object the photopic contrast gives a better representation of detection than the calculated mesopic contrasts.
