Light source quality assessment
Light sources are traditionally characterized by their efficacy, correlated colour temperature and general colour rendering index, CRI. With the introduction of new light sources, especially light emitting diodes (LEDs), several papers questioned the usefulness of the CRI, but no good alternative solution has been proposed up to now. The present paper describes a new method to evaluate the colour reproducing quality of a light source using visual assessment techniques. The correlation of the visual assessment correlates poorly with the traditional colour rendering index.
