Prediction of colour differences in uniform Colour spaces and colour appearance models
Relations of predicted colorimetric colour differences obtained in uniform colour spaces L*u*v*, L*a*b*, L*a*b*-N and NC-IIIC, colour appearance models Hunt, Nayatani, CIECAM97s and CIECAM02, and modified colour difference formulae CMC, CIE94(CIELCH) and CIEDE2000 with perceived colour differences have been studied to examine the properness of colour difference specifications in various colour spaces. Perceived colour differences have been evaluated through visual evaluation experiment using 5 groups of colour chips (Red, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple) with two-dimensional colour differences of Hue and Chroma arranged on a constant value plane V=6 under standard illuminants D65 and A. Colorimetric colour differences estimated by new colour spaces L*a*b*-N and NC-IIIC are well correspond to perceived colour differences with good accuracy. It is confirmed that the new colour space is superior in the uniformity for colour specification and colour difference evaluation as compared to the traditional colour spaces and the traditional colour difference formulae.
