Colour rendering properties of light emitting diode and fluorescent lamp
In order to investigate perceived colour appearances under LED lamps and fluorescent lamps, visual evaluation experiment for 15 colour samples has been executed under the illumination of LED lamp, fluorescent lamp, Xenon lamp (Standard illuminant D65) and incandescent lamp (Standard illuminant A). In addition, colorimetric quantities of test colours under these lamps are calculated in U*V*W, L*u*v*, L*a*b*, Hunt, Nayatani, CIECAM97s, CAM02, and new uniform colour spaces, i.e., NC-IIIC and L*a*b*-N. Predicted colour appearances calculated in each colour space are compared with perceived colour attributes. As results of this study, it is found that metric quantities of test colours under these sources in traditional colour spaces cannot represent precisely perceived attributes of test colours. On the contrary, metric quantities of test colours in NC-IIIC and L*a*b*-N colour spaces are properly correspond with perceived attributes of test colours under the illumination of any sources. For the specification of colour rendering properties of light sources, NC-IIIC and L*a*b*-N spaces are proved to be superior to the traditional colour spaces.
