Luminance measurment device based on digital camera for quality control in automotive industry
It is necessary to provide sufficient quality control in manufacturing facilities. Therefore it is necessary to reliably evaluate end-products and at the same time consume as little time as possible. We present a method to efficiently measure luminance of illuminated switches found on car dashboards. Instead of conventional luminance meter and blackroom we use a consumer camera and a special chamber. Sample images are automatically captured and transferred to the computer. Specialised software analyses images by segmenting then and finding measuring points as specified by the manufacturers standards. In the end luminance is measured and final decision whether the sample complies with the standards or not is given. Although our method is more efficient and user friendly than conventional methods, it still preserves reliability. Apart from those advantages, expenses for the equipment are significantly lower than those of conventional equipment.
