Energy saving by compact fluorescent lamps in the residences considering user satisfaction

In this study, user preference on compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) is determined within the pilot project that was implemented in Istanbul Terasevler Housing Estate with the aim of determining of electrical energy saving by using CFLs in the residences. The pilot project was lasted for 15 months in 105 residences. Three different surveys had done in three different period of the pilot project to determine the residents preference on CFL usage.As CFLs are acceptable lighting solutions in the residences, residents desire is an important parameter for the usage of them. According to the residents desire on lamp replacement, it can be said that lamps replacement is mostly occurred in three or four different light points like kitchens, holes-entrances and bathrooms. As the color preference of the users is determined, cool daylight colored lamps are mostly preferred in kitchens and bathrooms and warm white colored are preferred mostly in holes and entrances. As a result, it is determined that 9% of residential electrical energy can be saved by using four CFLs in the lighting points where the residents preferred to replace incandescent lamps.
