Improving energy performance of buildings through the use of lighting control systems: an overview of assessment tools
The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive approved in 2002 by the European Parliament and Council (Directive 2002/91/CE) has renewed the awareness of the importance of adopting effective strategies to reduce energy consumption in buildings. An important role is played, especially in commercial buildings, by the adoption of strategies to reduce electric consumption for artificial lighting, as for example using lighting control systems. More accurate information on actual potential energy savings and availability of evaluation methods are necessary in order to guide designers among a great number of solutions nowadays available. In this paper an overview of assessment methods and some results are presented
