The effect of headlamps color temperature on visual performance of drivers
In this article, experiments were done in laboratory, correct detection rate and reaction time of visual task were measured under different light conditions with 3 different colour temperature (low, middle, high) at an illuminance of 30lx. Visual targets can be adjusted with 3 sizes(2, 5, 10), 3 locations (0°,left18°,right18°) and 3 colours (red, green, blue). The results of the experiments show that generally the higher colour temperature brings better visual performance especially for blue target and peripheral vision. However, the higher correctness rate needs more concentration and more reaction time. The results take the reaction time as a main parameter for the headlamp evaluation and the correctness rate as a modification parameter for evaluation to establish an evaluating method for the performance of headlamps with regard to safe driving.
