Total revealing power for tunnel lighting(the second report)
We presented the first report1 of this work at the CIE SESSION in San Diego 2003. The report outline is as follows. We proposed to adopt the total revealing power to estimate visibility of visual objects (objects dropped on the road) in the tunnel. The total revealing power is the sum of the revealing powers for the silhouette vision and the reversed silhouette vision. To obtain the total revealing power, we conducted a survey of reflectance and cumulative probability of the existence of the objects dropped on the expressway, and the experiments (to assure constant visibility) to know the relationship between luminance contrast and road surface luminance of the visual object. The total revealing power was obtained from the survey of the objects dropped on expressway and the results of the experiments of the visual objects. As a result, we found that the total revealing power was useful for evaluating the visibility of the objects dropped on the expressways. At this convention, our work progress regarding the total revealing power is reported as the second report.
