Research on the lighting environment in the street at night-part 2. The effect of the lighting environment in the street on the insecurity feeling
The objective of this paper is to clarify the relationship between lighting environment and insecure factors and to propose how residents contribute to their local community in order to enhance safety and security of street at night. In this report, the subjective experiment about the lighting environment was conducted in a residential district. The experiments were carried out under the two lighting conditions; one is only street light and the other one is street light and porch light. 12 subjects estimated the perceptions about safety and security at night in these lighting conditions. The horizontal road surface illuminance did not satisfy the criteria for security lighting in the guideline issued by Japan Security Systems Association and the vertical illuminance on the face did not meet the recommended value under the two lighting conditions. When the porch light turned on, the perceptions about safety and security at night were improved.
