Research on the lighting environment in the street at night-part 1. Residents attitude on the safety and security in the street at night

In this research, our objective is to establish a design method of street lighting in safety and security at night, keeping the illuminance level without putting in new lighting equipments. In this paper, we conducted the survey on the lighting environment in the street at night, using a questionnaire format for the local residents. They answered on their profile, on the street which made them insecure, and their attitude to the safety and security in the street at night. The survey area is Hiro district in Kure-city, Hiroshima, including a station of the railway, elementary schools, the high schools, and a supermarket. At first, we picked out the streets which made the local residents insecure. Then, we examined the relationship between the environments around the streets and the cause of insecurity feeling, and then, we showed the contribution that the residents agreed with.
