Lighting and sleep: a way of lighting to maintain healthy sleep habits
In order to investigate effects of household lighting in Japan on alertness and melatonin secretion at night and to establish a better way of lighting for sound sleep, a series of studies were carried out. The results suggest a possibility that ordinary Japanese household lighting could disturb our sleep habits. Therefore it is essential to optimize quality and quantity of the artificial light. Lower color temperature lighting consisting of light with a color temperature of less than 2500 K should be reasonable especially late at night.
