Uv irradiance at indoor life space

To research and assess ultraviolet (UV) irradiance under indoor lighting environment, an optical radiometry of indoor UV irradiance was conducted at a typical Japanese house. At daytime (without room lighting), indoor UV irradiance depended on global solar ultraviolet-A (UV-A) irradiance pass through windows, and the largest indoor UV irradiance was recorded at sunny place near by windows. On the other hand, indoor UV irradiance at not sunny place was 1/100 or less of the global solar UV-A irradiance and depended on the direction, size and number of windows in the room. Indoor illuminance showed the same results of indoor UV irradiance. However, UV irradiance through the window was penetrated deeper than the illuminance penetrated from the windows. At night, UV irradiance of interior lighting was 1/1000 or less of the maximum global solar UV-A irradiance, and depended on type, number and place of luminaire, and light sources in the room.
