Color reproduction between crt displays & use of color appearance models
In this paper, color reproduction between CRT displays with different white points in dark entironment using three transforms of color appearance of CIECAM02 and CIELAB, and direct matching of tristimulate values was experimentally investigated. The reproduction performances of three model predictions were compared by theoretical calculation and visual evaluation. Theoretical calculation was for the magnitudes of color difference between original display color and reproduction of the twenty-four color patches of Macbeth ColorChecker in different color formulae CIEDE2000 and ones in color spaces of CIELAB and CIECAM02. Experiemntal results showed that: (1)average color difference of reproduction was 0.46, 6.72 and 11.07 in unit of CIECAM02 color difference respectively using three model predictions, which was consistent with one of visual evaluation; (2)color difference formula in CIECAM02 color space had better performance than CIELAB color space and CIEDE2000 for evaluating color difference between different viewing entironments; (3)compared with color difference of the transform of color appearance, one of display characterization was smaller, only 0.90 in unit of CIEDE2000, but display characterization for colors with low luminance is a key in color reproduction between displays.
