Colour difference evaluation for printed images

Digital proof technology is adopted widely in printing industry, it can simulate colour print accurately after colour management. When evaluating colour proof It needs establish a colour difference threshold firstly. The experiments are designed to change lightness and chroma of test images systematically and control the magnitude of test images colour difference. Two group subjective evaluation experiments are carried out and the consistent results are achieved. The first group is to test perceived colour difference threshold by 50% possibility. The second one is to evaluate the colour difference of 11 colour centres and images and test which colour difference formula among CIELAB CIE94 CMC(1:1) CMC(2:1) CIEDE2000(1:1) is best fit the subjective evaluation results. The experiment results show that the average perceptible colour difference in complex images is about 2.5 △E*, which are somewhat depending on the image contents. The results also show that CMC(2:1) formula is more consistent under this experiment condition.
