Well Log Images for Core Location and Reorientation: Application to the Main Drillhole of the Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling Project
Within the framework of the Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling Project (CCSD) about 4 290.9 m of cores were drilled in the ultrahigh pressure metamorphic belt in Donghai, Jiangsu Province. In the absence of accurate depth and orientation Information, these cores are restricted in geological applications. This paper employed well log images for core location and reorientation. An Interactive program was developed to solve this problem, which allows matching the geological features on both core and wen log images. The depth and in-situ orientation of 5 825 pieces of cores from the dirllhole an obtained from the program, which are important for further geological research.
