Magma Mixing Texture: Biotite Reaction Rim from Chaoshan Pyroxence Diorite Porphyry in Tongling Area, Anhui, China

Tongling area is one of the largest copper and gold mineralization areas related to granitoids in China. There exists a controversy on the evolutionary mechanism of the intrusive rocks in this area. The authors discovered that partially resorbed amphibole phenocrysts are mantled by a reaction rim of biotite, clinopyroxene, feldspar and opaque minerals, in which biotites are inside, clinopyroxenes, feldspar and opaque minerals are outside, in Chaoshan pyroxence monzodiorite porphyry. It is also seen that clinopyroxene phenocrysts have resorbed cores or partially resorbed clinopyroxenes have the same reaction rim as amphibole phenocrysts. It is thought that the coexistence of biotite reaction rim of clinopyroxenxe and amphibole phenocrysts in the same thin section is compatible with the mixing between evolved basaltic magma and trachytic magma rich in K formed in the lower crust Therefore, these phenomena may be a type of magma mixing texture.
