Newly Discovered Pentlandite in the Gejiu Tin Deposit, Southwestern China
There are spatial relationships between Middle Triassic basalt and Cu-rich ore bodies in the Gejiu tin polymetallic deposit. Eighteen samples of the basalt were collected, and studied with microscope, electron probe X-ray micro-analyzer (EPMA), and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectra (ICP-AES). Newly discovered of pentlandite which hosted in the pyrrhotite is never reported before in Gejiu deposit. Further more, the nickel content from two Middle Triassic basalt whole rock samples are about 0.26 wt%, which is higher than the marginal grade of Ni (0.1 wt%). This result implies the possibility of comprehensive resource utilization of Cu and Ni in the Gejiu tin deposit.
