Copper Prospectivity Mapping Using Expert Weights of Evidence in Eastern Kunlun Mountains in Qinghai Province, China

Because the Eastern Kunlun Mountains ID Qinghai Province (EKMQ) has not been previously explored in detailed, the authors failed to use weights of evidence to do mineral prospectivity mapping in it with Arc-WofE. Then it was found that an expert weights option in Arc-WofE allows the user to manipulate the weights that are generated for one or more of the evidential themes input to the model. Obviously, EWofE is a type of knowledge-driven methods, which is useful in areas without detailed exploration such as EKMQ. So the authors try to use EWofE to make copper prospectivity maping in EKMQ. Firstly, the authors concluded geological characteristics and copper exploration model in EKMQ. Secondly the authors appointed weights of each evidential theme extracted from copper exploration model extracted from GIS database. Finally, copper posterior probabilities were calculated using EWofE in EKMQ, and a map of copper posterior probability was made. According to the method of prospectivity mapping based on EWofE proposed by authors, copper prospectivity mapping was made in EKMQ. There are 24 prospective areas mapped in EKMQ, consisting of 4 level-A, 5 level-B and 15 level-C ones in turn. By discussing on relationships between the prospective areas and given copper deposits, geological, geochemical and geophysical conditions in EKMQ, it was thought that the prospective areas marked by EWofE maybe be matched approximately with the fact in EKMQ. So it is reasonable to exercise the further prospecting work according to the category of level A, B & C.
