Analysis of Depositional System and Paleocurrent on Chang 6 and Chang 8 of the Yanchang Formation in the Southwestern Ordos Basin
Study indicates that Chang 8 Member is a suite of proximal and rapid accumulated alluvial fan and fan delta system characterized by point or linear provenances, which occurred during transitional phase from fast depression to thrust loading subsidence in the southwestern Ordos margin. The major source direction is derived from the southwest direction with the northwest and the southeast sources as the subordinate ones. Whereas when the Chang 6 Member occurred, a series of grand meandering-delta depositional systems deposited in the eastern margin, which gradually changed into semi-deep lacustrine to deep lacustrine with turbidity fades when they reached to the southwestern Ordos basin. Thus, the Chang 6 Member was influenced not only by sources from the southwest, northwest and southeast directions, but also affected by the northeast and the east subordinate provenance. The northeast and the east parts of the Xifeng area were a mixed source area when the Chang 6 Member was deposited.
