Analysis of Structural Simulation of Fault Formation in Stratified Rock Mass

For the study of formation process and prediction on causes of brittle faults, based on rock mechanics, rock mass mechanics and geological structure, using the method of finite element numerical simulation, the fracture extension tendency in stratified rock was simulated. The results show that the normal faults were formed by former fracture surface displacement, and the stress concentration was caused at the ends of two neighborhood joints. The basic condition of faults formation was that the distance of the ends of the former fracture surface is shorter or zero, and the fault was formed in the continuous action of structural stress and fracture surface displacement caused by that.
