Pre-split Blasting in Thin Terrane

Pre-split blasting technique was applied to the terrane rock slope of the third construction stage of Xi-Bai-Po power plant railway that parallels to Shuo Huang railway. The terrane was only 5 ~ 10 meters in thickness. Theoretical analyses were made based upon Livingstons crater theory while fracture range into rock slope was also considered in a safety proof sense. Some design principles for thin terrane pre-split blasting have been put forward for bench ms-delay pre-split blasting, thus blast parameters such as maximum charge amount per delay can be fairly selected. Design scheme, basic technical parameters, and result of this blasting project are introduced, which might be taken as a reference in other similar practices.
