Demonstration of the Efficient and Compact ESS for HEV
High power and high energy density Li polymer batteries (LiPB) have been developed for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) application. Using these Li polymer batteries, a compact Energy Storage System (ESS) was developed. This ESS has own particular structural design to provide uniform temperature control and robustness for shock durability and safety. To demonstrate the actual performance, the ESS was loaded on a commercial HEV by substituting the existing NiMH ESS. The LiPB ESS shows better fuel efficiency, performance and lower heat generation than the NiMH ESS.
