A Study on Ambidextrous Orientation in Entrepreneurial Firms: a View of CEO Social Networks
There is growing evidence that ambidextrous firms are more successful than firms that are oriented to only exploration or only exploitation. Drawing on the information processing perspective, this study examines whether CEOs social networks, both intra-firm and inter-firm, can simultaneously facilitate an entrepreneurial firms organizational ambidexterity. Furthermore, this study argues that TMT (top management team) cognitive conflict will moderate the information advantage brought by CEOs social networks. Data of 122 entrepreneurial firms provide evidence that CEOs intra-firm network embeddedness and inter-firm network embeddedness have a positive interaction on organizational ambidexterity. Besides, TMT cognitive conflict magnifies the impact of CEOs inter-firm network on ambidexterity.
