Applied Studies of Geostress Survey by Terrestrial Stress Measurement with Natural Electromagnetic Wave in Coal Mining

Terrestrial stress studies has been widely applied in roadway designing, excavation of underground tunnel, and slope handling of coal mines. At present, the sensors for most terrestrial stress measurement methods must be placed in boreholes of tunnels, to carry out terrestrial stress measuring to an area, which take only a single point measurement. Different from other traditional terrestrial stress surveying methods, the Terrestrial Stress Measurement with Natural Electromagnetic Wave can much faster and more economically measure the relative magnitude of the underground terrestrial stress. The natural electromagnetic wave reflected from the subsurface geologic bodies can be converted into voltage by the Detector on the ground. By processing the data the Detector acquired with a certain mathematical model, the isograms of a certain plane that indicate the terrestrial stress value of an underground surface at certain depth can be derived. This method was first applied to a study of the goaf caving height in the 3092 working face at the No.9 coal seam of Jing Ge Zhuang Coal Mine, Kailuan Coal Group of China. The test results of the study show that this method has wide application prospect in coal mining.
