The Effect of Thermal Stress on Main Roof Breaking During First Weighting in Deep Mining
The calculation of interval distance of main roof first weighting is an important content of roof control design. In the past, the effect of thermal stress on main roof breaking during first weighting was not taken into account. But initial temperature of main roof is higher in deep mines, so variation of temperature in main roof is larger due to stope ventilation. Therefore thermal stress caused by temperature variation is higher. In order to determine the interval distance of main roof first weighting correctly, the effect of thermal stress should be fully considered under the condition of deep mining. In this paper, the coupled thermal-stress mathematical model of main roof is established based on characteristic of heat conduction and mechanical model of main roof in first weighting. Finite element method for coupled thermal-stress analysis of main roof is introduced. Coupled thermal-stress analysis of main roof is carried out by using ANSYS, and the interval distance of main roof first weighting is determined. Calculation results of an example indicate that the interval distance of main roof first weighting shorten about 20% due to the effect of thermal stress.
