Study on Drilling Technique in Coal-bed by High Pressure Water Jet

Starting from the theory of high pressure water jet, the mechanism of coal breakage by high pressure water jet was studied, which indicated that tension, shearing, grinding etc. can work together to break coal. The appropriated parameters of the diameter of the jet nozzle, as well as the optimal structure and parameters of the drill bit were obtained through the combination of numerical analysis and experimental study. Based on this study, the equipments and technology of drilling in coal-bed by high pressure water jet were obtained. These equipments and technology had been tested in situ, and the initial success obtained. Subsequently, the potential problems of drilling in coal-bed by high pressure water jet were analyzed, the conclusions will lay a foundation for the future study in the region.
