Study on the Relation between Coal Surface Wettability and Coal Petrographical Composition

The advancing and receding contact angles are used to assess coal surface wettability, the contact angle forms at the coal-water-gas junction. According to coal petrology, coal is composed of mineral matters and maceral. The advancing and receding contact angles measurement on the coal surface indicats the different surface characteristics of the coal with different petrographical composition. The content of mineral matters in coal have some influence on the wettability of coal. the more the mineral matters in coal, the easier to be wetted for coal. The advancing and receding contact angles increas as vitrinite content increases generally. From vitrinite, semivitrinite, semiinertinite to inertinite , the hydrophobicity of maceral decreases in their order.
