Numerical Simulation on AE Characteristics of Three-Point-Bending Beams

Based on physical model of three-point-bending test, the AE characteristics of three-point-bending beam with different span were simulated by using RFPA3D (real failure process analysis) code. Simulation results show that the span affects the AE characteristics significantly. With the increasing of span, the occurrence of AE events decreases remarkably. The span affects the peak load of three-point-loading test and the fracture mode significantly. With the increasing of span, both the peak load and material brittleness decreases and the time needed to come to the peak load increases. The AE pictures, elastic modulus pictures and displacement-load curves were provided respectively.By analyzing the fracture process, tension stress on crack peak is the mainly reason for crack spread . The heterogeneity of rock has great influence on the crack propagation path, which leads the crack propagation path becoming curvilinear.
