Study on the Application of Fail-safe Design Principles in Mining Engineering and Security Technology

As a fatigue design method,fail-safe design has been widely used in aircraft design. The ideological essence is that the structure must be damage-tolerant, but the damage must be discovered before it reaches the dangerous dimensions, or never reaches the dangerous dimension during its entire lifetime, then the structure is fail-safe structure. Following by the principles of damage tolerance design, fail-safe design principles are still considerably advance in civil engineering, pressure vessels and other industries. In these fields fail-safe design principles are still in the development of a sound stage. This paper introduces concepts of the fail-safe, the fail-safe structure and the fail-safe load, and introduces the history of its development and application. The paper analyzes the real essential of the fail-safe design, discusses the advantages、prerequisite、basis and method of its application in civil and mining engineering, and also cited aircraft design and bridge design application examples based fail-safe design. Finally, the paper prospects the standard use of fail-safe design principles for civil and mining engineering design in the future. The design principles based on fail-safe is different from traditional methods. It provides new ideas and methods for the design and proofread of major projects. This paper is for the study and the prospect of this new approach. These design examples has some reference value to control its thinking, to explore its practical application.
