A New Fully Coupled Modelling for Coal/Rock Deformation and Gas Flow

In this study, a general fully-coupled mathematical model reduced for solid deformation and gas flow is proposed and implemented with finite element method (FEM). It is used to simulate the fully-coupled process during gas migration in deformable coal seam. The numerical simulations for comparison this general fully-coupled model with two kinds of another models have been implemented, the result implies that the fully-coupled effects between solid deformation and gas flow process have a significant different with another coupled models. The numerical results also indicate that the fully-coupling effects between solid-mechanical deformation and gas flow process, gas adsorption/desorption effect in coal and the Klinkenberg effects have a significant contribution to the gas flow through the coal seam.
